Life Satisfaction and the Human Development Index Across the World

We use annual data on over 150 countries between 2005 and 2018 to look at the relationship subjective well-being (both cognitive affective) Human Development Index (HDI). The HDI appears be more closely related than affective well-being. also consider relationships three components (the Income, Health, Education Indices) well-being, find that, average, Income has strongest predictive power. Importantly, we that only matter equally in Western rich countries. Our analysis contributes discussion about cultural sensitivity paradigms of societal development two ways. first show differences preferences toward aims exist. Second, propose a weighting procedure for culturally-sensitive version HDI.
